Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications
  • an American Library Association accredited master’s degree or equivalent advanced degree;
  • a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in academic library settings;
  • strong record in these areas: managerial/supervisory experience; scholarship; and service;
  • demonstrated working knowledge of one or more of the following areas: special collections and archives, digital scholarship, or technical services;
  • demonstrated understanding and management of complex operations and projects;
  • understanding of current issues in academic libraries and higher education;
  • commitment to excellence in library services, teamwork, diversity, and inclusiveness;
  • record of innovation and achievement in the profession;
  • record of success with planning, communicating, promoting, and assessing programs and services;
  • excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
License/Certification Required
Preferred Qualifications
  • a second advanced degree or coursework and/or certification in human resource management, industrial/organizational psychology, or a related area;
  • demonstrated understanding of special collections functions and how they are supported in an academic library; experience with digital scholarship, data curation, and data-intensive research support; experience with technical services including acquisitions, cataloging, metadata, and e-resources;
  • evidence of collaboration, building a shared vision, and developing sustainable partnerships;
  • commitment to collaborative, outcomes-based decision-making; shared governance; and the faculty model;
  • commitment to fostering the professional development of colleagues, advocating for library personnel, and practicing sound personnel practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Associate Dean will:

  • provide strategic leadership in planning and implementing innovative library services, programs, staffing and other initiatives;
  • supervise, support, and mentor coordinators of Special Collections, Digital Scholarship & Initiatives, and Resource Acquisitions Management;
  • promote effective cross-team communications, intra-team working groups, and project teams in concert with the other Associate Dean and the Dean of Libraries;
  • share in leadership for human resources and budgets;
  • implement and evaluate library policies and procedures;
  • apply knowledge of shared governance and university policies to the effective management of library operations;
  • advocate for continual professional development and learning, and maintain a comprehensive understanding of developments affecting academic librarianship;
  • serve as a member of library and academic leadership teams;
  • represent the Libraries’ interests at all levels throughout the Libraries, University, and the profession.
